Kids’ Orchards

YADA designed the project “Kids’ Orchards” and it was run in cooperation with Coca-Cola Life Plus Foundation, Cappy, Ministry of Education and Ankara University Development Studies Practice and Research Center (AKÇAM). YADA has been the coordinator of the project.
The project has started in 2009 with the original goal of building orchards for children and in 2010 it reached 70 elementary schools in 7 cities (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Bursa, Antalya, and Gaziantep).
By 2010-2011 term, the project was expanded to 30 more schools in 3 cities. The areas on which the orchards would be established were tailored for planting. Upon consulting experts from AKÇAM, the best fit nursery trees were selected and planting plans were designed for schools. Each school had planting festival with the attendance of children, school management, parents, parent-teacher associations and project partners. Orchards Clubs were founded in schools and after a training process the student started to monitor and take care of the orchards.
Students of Orchards’ Clubs in 100 schools in 10 cities attended activities where they observed the development of the saplings, maintained the orchard and got to know the living animals and plants in the orchard.
